Emirati women and workforce
in a clash of culture
What
is the conflict?
The
"Islamic" religion has a dynamic, flexible and keep pace system every
time in every era. Every problem that face human being "Islam" found the solution to solve it. women's for example,
in the "pre-Islamic" Arabia before Islam; had no rights. When a
female baby was born it was considered as a disgrace to the family and "female
infanticide" was a common response. Nowadays some people are doing the
same but in another way, they want to deprive women from working in order not
to work in a mixed environment.
What
is the cultural view behind the conflict ?
The
main idea that has gradually caused this phenomenon is that some emirati families are afraid of breaking the Islamic rules and the traditional habits at
the same time, so in case to avoid that
they started to deprive women's from
working in order not to mix with men. If she wants to continue her journey she
must face her family and convince them to let her work in the field that she
wants to work in.
Who is involved ?
The ones who will be judging the women choice are of course her
family specially men's. It could be her father, or her brother, or her husband
who will be deciding whether she will
work in this place or not.In the passage that I had read recently, Sara Humaid
friend and Mariam, changed their study major just because their relatives
disagree to let them work in a mixed environment.
What
is the best solution to solve this phenomenon ?
In my opinion I
think that the best solution to solve this kind of problems is that we have to
apply our original Islamic prospective in order to gain some good results, Advising
is a good conductor too, it can
affect the listener directly. I disagree depriving women's from working. we
should cooperates with them otherwise our country will not develop. If she is
educated enough and has all the requirement that qualify her to change her
country why not !. Nowadays There are several facts that says some women's
equals 10 men, and the simplest example for this are the women's who works on
the military field, and in my point of view I think that no one can deny that.
My worldview :
Our worldview concentrate on three main
things, Power/fear, Guilt/innocent, honor/shame. In my point of view I think
that the most influenced thing in my world view is honor/shame, because as I
mentioned before that some families are
afraid of making any small defect on their tradition aspects. The second point
is Guilt/innocent, some families feels guilty about their choices that they
made for their daughter in whether they want her to work or not. The last point
is power/fear, It depends on whether this person wants to make a difference on
his life or not.
